Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Digital camera Features

    * A Slim 10x Optical Zoom Using a Unique Prism - LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT LENS
o The world's first integration of retractive lens with folded optics technology allows the zooming to occur horizontally within the camera. This makes it possible to pack a powerful 10x optical zoom (equivalent to a big 35 to 350mm lens on a 35mm camera) into a compact camera.
    * Crisp, Clear Shots of Moving Subjects
o The Venus Engine III provides a high sensitivity ISO 800 setting that captures images with minimal noise at full resolution. The higher ISO setting lets you use higher shutter speeds to minimize the motion blur that can occur when you're shooting a moving subject, particularly in dim lighting.
    * Taking Hand Movement Out of the Picture with MEGA Optical Image Stabilization
o All of us have taken a shot that we thought was focused perfectly, only to have it turn out blurry. The most common cause of this is hand movement.
    * High Sensitivity Mode Helps Reduce Motion Blur
o When there's not a lot of light or you're using a slow shutter speed, hand movement isn't the only potential problem. There's also "motion blur" -- the blurring that can result if your subject like children or pets move even a little in low lighting.
    * Rapid Focusing with Linear AF
o Choose from several auto focus modes -- spot, 1-point (normal or highspeed), 3-point high-speed, and 9-point -- to suit the scene you're shooting.
    * MEGA BURST Consecutive Shooting
o Thanks to the Venus Engine III, the DMC-TZ1 has a release time lag as low as 0.006 seconds.
    * A Large, Bright 2.5" Diagonal High-Resolution LCD with High Angle Mode
o With its 2.5" diagonal size and 207,000 pixels, this high-resolution LCD monitor makes it easy to see text and small thumbnail images.
    * Versatility to Take on the Road
+ World Time Setting- If you select a travel destination, the camera calculates the time difference from the time in the clock setting and displays the local time.
+ Travel Date Setting- Input the time and date of your departure before you leave home, then use the DMC-TZ1 to capture all the best moments of your trip. When you view the photos later, the DMC-TZ1 will display them according to the day of the trip each photo was taken.
+ Calendar View- The DMC-TZ1 can arrange images you've shot by the day on which you shot them. This can be a big help when you have a large number of images to organize.
+ Three New Scene Modes- There are three new scene modes added especially for travel use: Aerial photo, Beach, and Underwater.
+ Marine Case (Optional)- Lets you shoot underwater at a depth of up to 130 feet. It's also ideal for taking worry-free photos in the rain, at the beach, or on the ski slopes.

""I have never owned a digital camera, being less than technologically inclined I have tended to shy away from the digital cams. I have recently found myself in need of a good digital camera, though an easy to use one. I also wanted a camera I could grow with as I became more accustomed to using a digital camera. The Lumix FZ7 has been everything I had hoped for. When I purchased the camera I figured I'd just stay in simple mode and that would be Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Digital camera. Well, the camera is so easy to use that I have found it to be quite fun to experiment with the various preset scene modes, as well as trying the manual modes. If you are new to the digital camera scene, this camera will get you out taking pics right out of the box. If you are a bit more advanced than a beginner, this camera will also offer many features that you can use as you grow with the camera. I love the stabilizing feature this camera has. I have essential tremor that affects my hands pretty seriously. This has always been a problem for me with regard to getting nice clean pics without using a tripod. I have been surprised with how nice and clean the pics come out, even when I am using this camera without a tripod. I was also surprised with how well the camera operated when I was forced to use it without a flash while taking pictures in doors during the day. The pictures came out beautifully, even with the low light available. I love having the option to use the LCD screen or the EVF. The EVF is especially useful when taking close up shots during the day, out doors. I was also surprised with the quality of the video footage when using the video mode. Thru out the video footage, panning was smooth and non choppy or bouncy. The quality of the picture remained consistent thru out the entire video. An external boom mic option would be nice, if you are planning to use the camera in video mode exclusively. The built in mic does well, though as with most equipment that has a built in small mic, the sound is not very high quality, though it still does a good job. This camera is light weight, though weighty enough to feel very sturdy and durable. This makes it a joy to use for hours without feeling fatigue from carrying a heavy camera around. All in all I have enjoyed using this camera and have been very pleased with my purchase.I also must say I was very pleased with my experience with B&H Photo, as this was my first purchase from them. Their prices are very competitive, the customer service is excellent, and the camera was shipped to me very quickly." "

"Pros: Very Good 10x optical zoom with Panasonic's Mega OIS gives a very good picture even for people with a little shaky hand.

Cons: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Digital camera uses Panasonic Proprietary battery which is expensive and also a disadvantage if you go for a three day trek in a jungle :) (Panasonic claim its a traveller camera!!!, at full charge by using flash
Summary: Summary
Well, No complaints about the picture quality.

Put the pict mode to 'standard', good for shooting outdoors, put it to 'natural' and the inbulit noise reduction algorithm starts to work and is good for shooting indoors ,and if you want some extra fun with colors, use the 'vivid' mode."

"Overall Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 Digital camera is a great buy. The zoom and resolution allow for amazing nature pictures, as well as any highly detailed thing. The main drawback that I see is that it is difficult to take impromptu pictures. If you see something that you really like, first you have to take off the lens cap, turn the camera on, wait for it to register, then snap the shot and then again wait for it to register. Don't get me wrong, this process doesn't take minutes, I would just want it to be a little quicker so that perfect shot isn't gone before you know it. Otherwise, lightweight, easy to cary on hikes. I got the hardshell carrying case which holds it perfectly. Have used it in the rainforest with, yes, a little bit of rain and nothing got damaged. Comes with software to easily upload pictures and make any adjustments to your pictures. Not really a camera you would take to the club with you for a night on the town, but I definitely have it with me on a hike or a while I travel the world. "
